Perfect for when your car's been ungaraged for, well, for as long as you've had it. This duo gets your paint smoother than a jazz duet, decontaminating it far more effectively than a mere wash could ever achieve.

  • The classic duo: top-grade clay bars (fine and medium) and slick non-silicone clay lube that cleans whilst it glides
  • Perfect for removing bonded and embedded contaminants safely and smoothly (that washing and polishing can't touch!)
  • Simple to use and beginner-friendly, this kit is your paint’s smoothness shortcut...
  • Shear Genius Clay Bar Kit
  • Born Slippy Clay Lube (500ml)
  1. Wash and rinse your car – get the surface clean but leave it wet and skip the drying
  2. Spray Born Slippy generously onto the panel
  3. Tear off a chunk of clay (start with yellow fine grade if unsure, green is there for the trickier contamination but may not be suitable for the most sensitive paint finishes), roll into a ball and then flatten into a small pancake
  4. Using the tips of your fingers on the clay pad, work it back and forth in light passes over the panel – no pressure - you'll feel and even hear it freeing up as it takes the paint from rough to smooth
  5. Check the clay pad face for contamination, when it becomes too grubby then fold it over and use a new clean face (you can fold it a couple of times before you have to throw it away)
  6. Rinse the panel with water to remove any residue, then wipe the area down with a clean microfibre
  7. Admire your now-smooth paint... polish it if needed and then protect it

How do I use it?
Spray Born Slippy clay lube on your panel, glide the clay bar over it gently, rinse and wipe clean, and boom...silky paint.

What are the two colours of clay in the kit?
We give you a yellow fine grade clay suitable for all paints and a denser green clay for removing heavier contamination. The green clay could mark the most delicate finishes, especially if used incorrectly, so don't start with this. Use the yellow until you are confident in the process. If you do say any clay marring with the green clay simply polish out with Critical Finish or Lime Prime depending on paint hardness.

Can I skip waxing after clay?
Nope, clay may make the paint smooth but it is not protecting the paint; it removes the embedded contamination that makes paint rough to the touch and prevents that last percent of shine. Your paint may be uber-clean after claying but it still needs a wax or sealant on top to protect it - and it may even need a polish in between the two stages for the ultimate shine.

Does claying remove swirls?
No, it is removing embedded surface contaminants, it doesn't remove sub-surface scratches or swirls. These can be polished out or filled (enhanced) using a wax or sealant on top.

Will claying mar or scratch my paint?
If you use a wet panel, plenty of lube, a yellow clay, light pressure and the paint finish isn't abnormally sensitive, then absolutely not. Use a green clay and go in dry and hard on a soft paint finish and mild marring could occur, but this can be polished out relatively easily if it does.

Do I knead or fold the clay while working?
You knead the clay initially to roll it into a ball, before flattening it into a clay pad/pancake. Then it just needs folding when the clay pad face becomes contaminated and dirty. There's no need to fold it if it isn't dirty. Once you've folded it a couple of times, the dirt may be in danger of coming through, so throw the piece away and tear off a new bit from the bar. A little goes a long way and you only use as much as you need...
