Not many people realise it, but the underside of the dodo boasts the fluffiest fur on the planet.
We took advantage of this, by shaving dodos at the peak of their fluffiness and getting island villagers to knit them into microfibre buffing cloths – perfect for scratch-free buffing of polishes and wax residues.
With a dense 500gsm 'super-plush' pile, more softness than leading ‘shaggy’ deep pile or plush microfibres, no tag to catch on bodywork and special microsuede edging to reduce the chance of marring even further, this fur really is fantastic.
Finally, it is worth noting that because Fantastic Fur is so soft, removal of stubborn residues will be quicker and easier if you use a cloth with a bit more 'bite'. Therefore, for sealants and hybrid waxes, a shorter pile or regular 'plush' pile cloth may be more suitable. Save Fantastic Fur for soft paints, delicate finishes and easily-removed residues.
Care of buffing cloths. All our microfibres are fully machine washable. Wash them with a non-bio liquid at 30 degrees for light soiling or 40 degrees for heavier contamination - or even better, grab some of our Dodo Juice Furry Liquid, which is made for the job. Powders may not dissolve and get caught in the fibres, so liquids are better... and bio detergents may eat the stitching over time. Avoid the use of fabric conditioners or softeners at all costs as these can make microfibre cloths water repellent. If this happens, you'll need to send the cloth to the dry cleaners, or soak it in a strong APC solution overnight (Dodo Juice Total Wipe Out is ideal for this). Finally, fluffiness can be restored by tumble drying on a low heat. High heat will damage the fibres. Some clumping/entangling of fibres is natural as the microfibre becomes older - consign old microfibres that are past their best to secondary duties like wheel cleaning.
